GARY SHAFFER is director of the ALA-accredited master of management in library and information science program at University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and assistant dean and director of USC Libraries’ Center for Library Leadership and Management. He is former CEO of Tulsa City-County (Okla.) Library and has a PhD in managerial leadership in the information professions from Simmons College in Boston. Shaffer’s chapter on library sustainability in the Handbook of Information Management (edited by James Matarazzo and Toby Pearlstein) is due out later this year, and his book, Creating the Sustainable Public Library: The Triple Bottom Line Approach, will be published in early 2018.
