Wayne M. Crocker received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Virginia State College (now University) in 1978 and went on to receive the Master of Science in Library Service degree from Atlanta University in 1979. He is presently the Director of Library Services for the Petersburg Public Library System. Prior to this position, he was employed as a Librarian with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Crocker has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations to include the American Library Association, Virginia Library Association, Public Library Association and the Virginia Public Library Directors Association. He co-chaired the Fourth and Fifth National Conferences of African American Librarians. He has received several honors and awards including the F. Nathaniel Gatlin Award from the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, the Distinguished Service Award from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, the Rotarian of the Year Award from the Petersburg Breakfast Rotary Club, and the Community Leaders Award from Virginia LISC. He recently received the James A. Partridge Award for his career-long dedicated service, leadership and commitment to the empowerment of the people he serves.

In 2012, he established a partnership between a major university, the local health department, and the Library to provide area residents with free information about their health conditions and improve health literacy. This initiative now includes free classes including exercise, yoga, meditation, and others.
